BEYOND BLACK AND WHITES: Remaking Race in America
This article talk about how alot of kids in Amerca can't label thereselve as one race. Because now people are marrying out of thier race. A white man and and African American woman what race would that be ? this article says that before 2000 intermarried couples had no choice but to put their kid as either black or white, which can be pretty annoying . But now its different now people with more than once race can put "OTHER" as a race . It states in the article that this matters because, how people report themselves provides information needed to implement and enforce important legislation like the voting rights act. The growth of muliracial population is a result of increasing marraiges betwwen non whites and whites. I think this very interesting because i didnt know how much it matters what race you're in and i didnt really care about the other category, now i see that the other category really does matter and it changed the life of the parents and kids with multiracial marraige .

Ive watched so many movies abour interracial married couples and it is just sad to see what others think of them, even though it was a movie there was a lot of truth to it. I'm so happy that you can say "But now its different now people with more than once race can put "OTHER" as a race" because there are many people out there with many different race in their blood and sometimes they feel left out because they dont know what box to check off. I know this from experience, so anytime I do see an "other" box I immedately check that one. We need to keep on looking out for eachother and not only worry about our own problems but worry about those that are around us.
ReplyDeleteI can see where you are coming from, and how the kids feel at times. It can be awkward, even for me, because the outsiders from my family believe my mother is my nanny. It can sometimes be confusing in determining what ethnicity a child can be in interracial marriages, which I think is the combination of both. It's sad to see how others judge them because of the "different" things that are not popular to them.
ReplyDeleteMy roommate is a half Polish and a half Korean. He told me that sometimes he got confused when he was glowing up how to act or behave. Even thought there are many interracial marriages, there are still bad attention to their marriages.
ReplyDeleteOne of the things that I learned in this class was that there are things we don't even pay attention to that are enormously important. In fact, every time I fill out a paper I thought the word "other" means other race not listed. Although, it means other race, I never thought of it as being multiracial. I really like this article because beyond letting us appreciate the beauty of multiracial families, it helps us know and be aware of the importance of paying attention to it. As a result, I don't think we should see it as something bad. It is great to see whites and blacks, etc, getting marry in the global discrimination we live in. Also, it is certainly helpful for us, because we are always classifying ourselves and others. This is why many multiracial individuals see themselves so worry about how they must behave, speak,or act. I think they should be what they are; with great advantage knowing more than one language, which is great because you can communicate with more people and appreciate more cultures. Besides, it makes an individual more culturally opened. Consequently, he or she will not have the contradictions some of us often have thinking that what we do and how we do it is how is right.
